Ramadan Muslims: Listerine ... ok or haram?
Salamu alaikum,
I've been using Listerine mouthwash for as long as i can remember, i mean its sold everywhere and i'min a muslim country, and i just discovered its alcohol content, i did not know about it... they say its about 21% alcohol... stronger than a lot of drinkable alcohol.
Is it Haram to use it or does it classify under special usage/medical reasons?
If it is haram do you know a brand of mouth wash that doesn't contain alcohol, i have to use it, i have a bad case of morning breath everyday.

Yes, it's haram. Alcohol is absorbed through osmosis directly into the bloodstream through the sides of the mouth. There are numerous halal mouthwashes. There's a house brand from Wal-Mart that contains no alcohol, for example. There's Tom's of Maine, which makes a lot of halal products, too. You can also make your own halal mouthwash using a capful of hydrogen peroxide mixed in a glass of water.
